Solar and battery for Greenhill and Studd Hill

Western-side semis and terraces where 3.5 to 4 kWp is the classic job.

New-build brick and render houses on a wet estate street, with solar panels on several roofs and a field and the sea beyond

Greenhill and Studd Hill are the western suburbs, on the higher ground that runs to about 10 metres on the west of the Plenty Brook valley. The ground is London Clay with brickearth over it in the west, so deep foundations are not a roof question, but it does mean any garden-mounted panel needs a proper footing.

The 2021 Census counted 1,754 households in the Greenhill ward. About 48% live in semi-detached houses, 25% in detached and 20% in terraces, with 5% in flats. Semis are the classic 3.5 to 4 kWp job, around ten panels, and a 5 kWh battery is a sensible quote to compare. Terraces have narrower roofs, so 2 to 3.5 kWp is more usual and the rear slope is often the easiest place.

We found no conservation area record under the Greenhill or Studd Hill name in the council's planning data, which is the national dataset the council supplies. If you have a newer home that came with panels, send us the inverter brand and the system size and we will say whether a battery can be added, and roughly what it costs, without a survey first.

What we check at your address

  • Roof direction and any shade from neighbouring trees or extensions
  • Existing panels, their size and the inverter brand
  • Loft or under-stairs space for the inverter and a battery
