Reculver sits about three miles east of Herne Bay, where the Romans built a fort called Regulbium. The two ruined church towers, known as the Twin Sisters, are kept by English Heritage, and the national planning data lists a Reculver conservation area registered in 1997. The coastline here is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area and a Ramsar site, so we avoid anything on that stretch that would need more than a roof.
The 2021 Census counted 1,851 households in the Reculver ward. About 54% live in detached houses and 24% in semi-detached homes, and 143 households, nearly 8%, live in a caravan or other mobile structure. A caravan or park home is a different job from a house, and we would rather say so early than quote for something that will not work. For the detached houses, 5 kWp or more is realistic.
Bishopstone Glen and the soft eroding cliffs are the other thing to know. We do not put anything near a cliff edge, and for homes near the coastline we would want the council's and the Environment Agency's advice before we design a system. Where the roof is large and the house is well back from the edge, solar and a battery together are worth pricing.
